If you are considering dentures for the first time, you will no doubt have lots of concerns. Here are some common questions and answers: <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>What will my new dentures feel like?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

Even perfectly fitting dentures will feel strange at first and can take a few weeks to get used to. They are likely to feel strange in your mouth initially, and may feel too large and cause you to salivate more than usual. You may even have some gum soreness to begin with.<\/p>\n

This is all natural, as you have something new in your mouth that will take time to get used to. Within a month or two, your dentures should feel normal and comfortable.<\/p>\n

You are advised to remove your dentures for a period of time every day (at night if possible) to give your gums a rest.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>Will my new dentures show?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

Your dentures will be made to perfectly match the shade of any existing teeth.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>Will I look different?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>
\n

Your dentures will support your cheeks and lips, helping to prevent sagging facial muscles. Many patients find they look younger, as well as having a more confident smile.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>What foods will I be able to eat?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

Once you are completely used to your dentures, you should be able to return to your normal diet. At first, eating will feel odd and you will need to start off with softer foods and slow chewing.<\/p>\n

Take time to adjust to your new dentures and concentrate on using both sides of your mouth and chewing up and down. Cut your food into small pieces to begin with and have a drink of water with your food to help prevent food sticking to your dentures.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/i><\/span>Will my speach be affected?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>

There will be a slight change to your speech at first, but this should settle down once you have got used to wearing your dentures. Practice words that you are finding difficult and try reading aloud to help your speech get back to normal.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
